Dramatic Slowing Down of Oil/Water/Silica Contact Line Dynamics Driven by Cationic Surfactant Adsorption on the Solid

چکیده
We report on the contact line dynamics of a triple-phase system silica/oil/water. When oil advances onto silica within water film squeezed between and silica, rim forms in recedes at constant velocity. evidence sharp (three orders magnitude) decrease velocity upon addition cationic surfactants above threshold concentration, which is slightly smaller than critical micellar concentration. show that, with or without surfactant, range small capillary numbers investigated, can be described by friction term that does not reduce to pure hydrodynamical effects. In addition, we derive model successfully accounts for selected rim. further demonstrate strong increase coefficient surfactant bulk concentration results from strongly nonlinear adsorption isotherm silica. From variations spreading parameter surface suggest picture part adsorbed are bound interface trapped under droplet responsible large friction.

Effect of cationic surfactant on the adsorption characteristics of anionic surfactant on cellulose surface
Adsorption kinetics and equilibrium studies of sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate (NaDBS) on cellulosic surface are investigated. Modifications in adsorption induced by cationic surfactant cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) are studied. It is concluded that the rate of adsorption and the amount of adsorption are increased. Importance of these observations in detergency is indicated.
متن کاملRecovery of Oil in Limestone with Cationic Surfactant: Investigation of the Adsorption, Wettability, and Spontaneous Imbibition
The performance of petroleum recovery methods is dependent on the characteristics of the reservoir rock, oil quality, and formation water. One fundamental feature for considering petroleum recovery methods is the wettability of the rock reservoir. Also, this feature impacts the displacement of fluids in the rock reservior. In the case of the limestone, which normally features oil wettability, e...

Adsorption and onset of lubrication by a double-chained cationic surfactant on silica surfaces.
In the context of glass fiber manufacture, the onset of lubrication by a C(18) double-chained cationic surfactant has been investigated at high normal contact pressures. Comparison with adsorption kinetics demonstrates that lubrication is not directly connected to the surfactant surface excess but originates from the transition to a defect-free bilayer that generates limited dissipation. The im...
